Teaming Up with Teachers

In my last blog I talked about changing hearts and minds of the next generation. This isn’t something we do alone; we rely on partnerships with communities, other agencies, youth leaders and other educators-especially teachers. They help us fulfill our mission to “Advocate and implement best management practices for conservation of land and aquatic resources in a developed environment through education, stewardship and technical assistance.”

We understand that funds and time are often both in short supply in the schools. With this in mind, we provide services to help teachers deliver quality, place based environmental education for grades K-8. These services include professional development for teachers, certified stormwater education programs, lesson plan assistance, technical assistance with project based learning, material loans and classroom programs.

Our teacher workshops come in a variety of topics with activities, projects and lesson plans that are correlated to state standards. Some of these workshops provide educators with an opportunity to earn graduate credits and funding for projects at their schools! Other workshops give teachers the opportunity to learn how to use the models and materials we have available for loan. In our newest teacher workshops – Make a Splash Wetfest- we train teachers to use Project WET activities to deliver a fun filled, educational experience that can be tailored to the needs of any school.
