Phragmites is a tough invasive plant. It spreads by runners and seeds. Yesterday Hawken students cut and bagged seed heads (panicles) and removed stalks. We then planted native species to try and shade out the phragmites. We will have to continue to come back in and cut until the other species get well established if we want to see long term success. Stay tuned to our next newsletter, coming soon, for more information about this invasive plant.
