April is Earth Month. And it's Ohio's very first Native Plant Month. April is home to Earth Day (April 22), Arbor Day (April 24) and the National Association of Conservation Districts Stewardship Week (April 26-May 3). And most years, that means April is also full of fun events focused on planting trees, building rain barrels and fun educational fairs and presentations.
While we won't be leading any rain barrel workshops, volunteer tree plantings or invasive plant removal days in April 2020, that doesn't mean we can't come together virtually to celebrate Earth Month and all that comes with it. Cuyahoga SWCD and many of our partner organizations are working together to bring you Earth Day, Arbor Day and other programs throughout April and beyond (all from a safe social distance, of course):
Individual Acts of Conservation - This Cuyahoga SWCD program provides an opportunity for individuals and families to show off and record what they are doing to help out their little corner of the planet. From planting trees and native plants to taking a pledge not to litter, these Individual Acts of Conservation show that even though we are keeping away from each other, together we can still make a difference for our local soil, water, wildlife and neighborhoods.
Cleveland Earth Day Celebration - The 50th Anniversary of Earth Day is going online! A collaboration of Cleveland-area organizations are presenting a variety of virtual Earth Day activities, including children's book readings, Party for the Planet online, our own Individual Acts of Conservation, and more!
Arbor Week 2020 - Cleveland Tree Coalition and its partners are taking Arbor Day to the next level with Arbor Week! This series of online activities will include tree planting and care, instructional videos, ask an arborist, book readings, and a series of blog posts by many of the organizations working to restore our urban tree canopy, including Cuyahoga SWCD. Watch our Facebook page for more information and a schedule!
I hope you will be inspired to join us for one or more of these online events, and remember - TOGETHER we can change the world!
