SUMMARY:Career Shadow Day
DESCRIPTION:We’re inviting 11th–12th graders and newly graduated young adults to join us for a Career Shadow Day with Cuyahoga SWCD. \nSpend a day learning who we are\, what we do\, the career paths in conservation\, and how our team found their way into this work. \nWe’re looking for 5–10 students or recent grads who are curious about environmental work and want an inside look at real‑world conservation careers. \nThe day begins at our office with an overview of Cuyahoga SWCD\, who we are\, what we do\, and how we serve the county. Our staff will introduce participants to our four service areas: Education & Outreach\, Watershed Management\, Stormwater Management\, and Healthy Soils & Natural Resources. \nLunch is provided\, and our staff will join so participants can ask questions and get to know the team! \nIn the afternoon\, we’ll head out for a field trip to visit several project sites\, giving participants a firsthand look at the work we do and how it impacts our communities. \nWe plan to be back to the office by 4:00pm (time may vary)! \n\nParticipants must sign a waiver prior to event date (parent/guardian signature).\nWe will be travelling in Cuyahoga SWCD vehicles.\n\nClick here for flyer!

SUMMARY:Rain Barrel Workshop | South Euclid
DESCRIPTION:Collect rainwater\, cut down on stormwater pollution\, and give your garden a boost by building your own rain barrel.  \nA rain barrel captures and stores water that would otherwise rush into storm drains untreated. By using this collected water on your lawn and garden\, you conserve resources\, support healthier waterways\, and keep your plants happy.  \nThe workshop begins with a brief presentation and demonstration on assembling a rain barrel using the diverter kit. After the presentation\, you’ll receive the rain barrel system(s) you purchased during registration. You’ll have everything you need to assemble your rain barrel system(s) at home using just a drill and a screwdriver.  \nThe $60 fee covers everything you need for one rain barrel system: a 60‑gallon barrel\, drill bits\, and a downspout diverter.   \nThe $40 fee covers a second barrel and linking kit to create a two‑barrel setup. This additional barrel connects to your first barrel and does not attach to the downspout. Barrels should be linked at the bottom\, so they fill up and drain together.   \nPre‑payment and registration are required. Please register by July 27.  \n\nYou’ll receive a confirmation email closer to the event date. \n\n\nBarrels are 2 ft wide × 3 ft tall. Please ensure they will fit in your vehicle. \n\n\nThe system must be installed on a downspout. You’ll need to elevate the barrel (concrete blocks work well)\, but elevation materials are not included.

SUMMARY:Green Yards & Healthy Homes Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Our yards and homes have an enormous impact on both the natural world and our own health. At this workshop\, you’ll learn simple\, practical ways to create a healthier landscape by reducing the use of unnecessary chemicals and adopting environmentally friendly lawn and garden practices. \nHousehold cleaners and lawn chemicals can be sources of water pollution\, making their way into local streams and rivers and\, ultimately\, Lake Erie. Proper soil testing can help you save money\, grow healthier plants\, and reduce excess nutrients from washing into our waterways. \nThe workshop is free to attend\, and each attendee will receive a complimentary soil test kit while supplies last.
