SUMMARY:Rain Barrel Workshop | Mayfield
DESCRIPTION:Collect rainwater for outdoor use and help reduce stormwater pollution in your community by building your own rain barrel. \nA rain barrel captures and stores rainwater that would otherwise flow untreated into storm drains. You can use this collected water to nourish your lawn and garden\, conserving resources and supporting a healthier environment. \nThis workshop includes a rain barrel system pickup along with a brief presentation and demonstration at the start of the workshop.  \nYou’ll receive a barrel and a complete kit with all the parts needed to assemble your system at home using just a drill and a screwdriver. \nThe $60 fee covers all materials\, including a 60‑gallon barrel\, drill bits\, and a downspout diverter. If you’d like to create a two‑barrel setup\, an additional barrel and linking kit are available for $40. \nPre‑payment and workshop registration are required. Please register by June 30! \n\nA detailed registration confirmation along with rain barrel assembly instructional video will be sent to you as the workshop date approaches.  \nBarrel dimensions are 2 feet wide by 3 feet tall.\nThis system must be installed on a downspout. You will also need a way to elevate the barrel (concrete blocks work well)\, but these materials are not included in the price and will not be provided during the workshop.\n\n

SUMMARY:Career Shadow Day
DESCRIPTION:We’re inviting 11th–12th graders and newly graduated young adults to join us for a Career Shadow Day with Cuyahoga SWCD. \nSpend a day learning who we are\, what we do\, the career paths in conservation\, and how our team found their way into this work. \nWe’re looking for 5–10 students or recent grads who are curious about environmental work and want an inside look at real‑world conservation careers. \nThe day begins at our office with an overview of Cuyahoga SWCD\, who we are\, what we do\, and how we serve the county. Our staff will introduce participants to our four service areas: Education & Outreach\, Watershed Management\, Stormwater Management\, and Healthy Soils & Natural Resources. \nLunch is provided\, and our staff will join so participants can ask questions and get to know the team! \nIn the afternoon\, we’ll head out for a field trip to visit several project sites\, giving participants a firsthand look at the work we do and how it impacts our communities. \nWe plan to be back to the office by 4:00pm (time may vary)! \n\nParticipants must sign a waiver prior to event date (parent/guardian signature).\nWe will be travelling in Cuyahoga SWCD vehicles.\n\nClick here for flyer!
