What We Do

Natural Resources Management

Since 1949, the Cuyahoga Soil & Water Conservation District has aided landowners on issues related to natural resource concerns, both on the land and in the water. The original focus on erosion and sediment control has evolved into nonpoint source pollution prevention and its effects on water quality and habitat.  Education is key to raising awareness of pollution issues and actions to prevent pollution at its source.  Protecting natural resources is possible through the technical assistance and opportunities to engage the public that the SWCD provides.

The Cuyahoga SWCD offers opportunities for assistance related to soils, plants and growing, erosion and drainage issues, riparian buffers and tree plantings, and education for home owners’ associations. In addition, Cuyahoga SWCD offer opportunities to engage the public in activities from stream cleanups to rain garden installation.

In 2016, the District added an Urban Agriculture focus to compliment the USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service’s Seasonal High Tunnel Initiative.  Soil health, tree plantings, pollinator plants and technical assistance related to growing are offered.  This District also provides inspections of water quality and water quantity basins through working agreements, along with education regarding proper care and maintenance.
