Cuyahoga Soil & Water Conservation District

The Cuyahoga Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) is seeking a full‐time Director to lead the organization in implementing programs and practices that restore healthy soil and water resources in Cuyahoga County.

Cuyahoga SWCD is a local unit of government that provides technical assistance and programs to local governments and the community at-large. The organization is supported by an elected board of five. Reporting to the Board of Supervisors, the Director will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for the Cuyahoga Soil & Water Conservation District’s (SWCD) staff, programs, expansion, and execution of its mission. The Director supports and advances the mission, vision, and guiding principles of the SWCD while ensuring that its strategic plan, policies and programs meet fiscal requirements and the needs of the community.

Cuyahoga SWCD staff implement programs under the following departments: Administration, Conservation Education, Natural Resources Protection, Stormwater Pollution Prevention and Watershed Protection.


Responsibilities of the Director

  • Work with Board of Supervisors and staff to lead, develop, grow, and manage the Cuyahoga SWCD operations to meet its mission.
  • Develop and manage the annual budget of $1.4 million per year, plus special projects; seek funding for programs and staff
  • Direct operations of the Cuyahoga SWCD
  • Lead and supervise the SWCD’s staff of 14 employees.
  • Assist local communities in developing and implementing their mandated stormwater management programs
  • Assist with implementation of programs and community projects
  • Provide direct services to local landowners


Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, Master’s Degree preferred in Natural Resources Management, Business, Organizational Development, Public Administration or related field.
  • Senior management experience required
  • Supervisory and team leadership experience
  • Fiscal management expertise
  • Conflict management and resolution skills
  • Problem solving, presentation, and writing skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in community outreach
  • Demonstrated experience in fund raising, including grant writing
  • Knowledge of local land use regulations, Clean Water Act, watershed management, and stormwater quality and quantity management at the local, State, and Federal levels is preferred
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends
